Who decides where my music will be used?
In Film and TV productions, a music supervisor generally decides what music is appropriate for specific scenes or segments. However, there are always exceptions to the rule and many different licensing options available such as video games, theatrical productions, TV and radio advertising, as well as web and mobile applications, corporate AV shows and promotional takeaways. We work with professionals at all levels of the industry to try and place your music. -
How do I get paid for my music?
The initial master sync licensing fee is is split 50-50 between you (the artist) and FLIKTRAX. In order to collect what are commonly referred to as 'backend royalties', You must join a performing rights organization. These organizations track what are known as 'performance royalties'. The 3 big organizations in the US are: ASCAP, BMI, and SESAC. You are encouraged to join one of these organizations if you are a US citizen, or the foreign equivalent if you are not, such as SOCAN for artists in Canada. -
Am I signing away the ownership of my songs?
No. The licensing agreement is on a NON-EXCLUSIVE basis. You are giving us permission to license your music for a period of time. You NEVER sign away the ownership of your music. Fliktrax splits the publishers share of performance royalties that are generated from placements initiated by Fliktrax 50-50 with our contributors. Fliktrax takes no percentage of the writers share of performance royalties generated by placements initiated by Fliktrax. You agree to allow Fliktrax to facilitate the re-titling and re-registering of your material to distinguish placements of your material initiated by Fliktrax from placements that you may have initiated your self or through another publisher. -
Can I still submit music if my songs are not copywritten?
You can but it is ALWAYS advisable to copywrite your music. Just go to a U.S. copywrite registration site and get the forms. Try www.copyright.gov. Recently some of the larger music outlets were unable to collect back end royalties connected to the mobile services that they were providing ringtones for. When it was found that the music was mostly not copy write protected they were unable to recover damages. -
I don't have a packaged, manufactured CD. Can I still submit music?
Yes! As long as the songs are of broadcast quality and submitted as 16 bit uncompressed audio files. Mp3 files are suitable for preview only. Please do not submit 24 bit audio files as these are not end user friendly and unfortunately they quite often slip through the cracks before we can identify them as such. -
On what basis would my music be rejected?
There are a number of reasons why your submission might not be accepted. If the recording is not broadcast quality, or the lyrics are extremely hateful, prejudicial or pornographic, or the singing is out of key. These are the most common reasons. Fliktrax does not accept everything that we receive and make it automatically available for previewing on our website like some of the larger music licensing websites do. Of course to say something is "just plain bad" is really a matter of opinion, so if some or all of your music is not accepted do not be discouraged. Keep honing your music writing skills. Remember that we only make the best quality music available to our clients. -
How will I know if my music is accepted?
FLIKTRAX will contact you via e-mail if your submission is accepted. Make sure you include ALL of your contact info with your CD. As well as your PRO affiliation and CAE number. -
Can I still sign a deal with a label or a publisher if I am signed with FLIKTRAX?
Yes. Our license agreement is Non-Exclusive. -
What style of music are you looking for?
We are looking for every possible style of music that exists from every corner of the world! Don't worry about "fitting in" to certain categories. If you are a talented composer or songwriter, we would like to have you as a Fliktrax contributor.
